The author has worked intensively with first responders and veterans in the aftermath of 9/11. He is a certified trainer for the Benson and Henry Institute of Mind Body Integrative Medicine, affiliated with Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. He has trained first responders and veterans in meditation and mindfulness practices in police and fire departments in New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. He is certified by the New Haven Fire Academy as firefighter, co-collaborating with the US Coast Guard Long Island Sound and has studied the way of the open hand for many years. He is currently a graduate school professor and consultant in New York City.
